What do UU鈥檈rs want in the new climate policy?
About 325 students and staff gave their views on the new climate policy. In total, 122 students, 196 employees and 5 others completed the survey. The results are used as input for the new climate policy (2021-2025).
Some interesting insights that emerged from the survey:
Almost 90% consider sustainability to be an important theme for the UU. 55% of respondents currently see Utrecht 木瓜福利影视 as a leader in the field of sustainability. Almost 80% believe that the university should do more.
Respondents feel that CO2 reduction is mainly the responsibility of the Board. However, many respondents write that students and staff also have a role to play.
The current goal of being CO2 neutral in 2030 is generally considered correct (67%). However, some respondents stress that it should not be at the expense of education and research or of biodiversity. 11% thinks the current target is too ambitious.
Many respondents have insufficient knowledge about a university-wide CO2-pricing. 47% indicated that they could not give an opinion on this.
Staff and students suggest sustainable solutions
A selection of suggestions voiced in the survey to reduce the university鈥檚 carbon footprint: less use of paper and plastic; non-reimbursement of air travel within Europe; solar panels; planting trees; more transparency; more sustainability courses outside the GEO faculty; less commuting; better communication and nudging; clear guidelines for waste separation; better air regulation in buildings.
