Utrecht 木瓜福利影视 turns off the lights on 26 October

On 26 October, 'de Nacht van de Nacht' will take place for the 20th time. De Nacht van de Nacht is organised by de Natuur en Milieufederaties (a regional environmental organisation) and aims, together with as many companies, municipalities, institutions and people as possible, to make the Netherlands darker and more sustainable. Utrecht 木瓜福利影视 is happy to contribute to this, so it will turn out the lights on 26 October.

We are one of the countries with the most light pollution in the world. All that unnecessary lighting causes light pollution and energy waste. It also disrupts the rhythm of humans and animals. People and animals need the natural rhythm of the night to rest, for their health and for strong resistance. Every year, millions of migrating birds are disturbed or die because of light pollution.

On 'de Nacht van de Nacht' we turn off the lights of all buildings in the city centre and at the Utrecht Science Park (USP). However, we do leave the emergency exit lights on for safety reasons (the green-lit signs in the buildings).

Besides turning off the lights on the Night of the Night, we work on smarter lighting throughout the year. We only light where necessary, we choose LED lighting everywhere, adjust the lighting as efficiently as possible, use presence detection and daylight control, for example. As UU has many buildings, this is a process that takes several years. This year it was the turn of the Buys Ballot Building and the Ruppert Building. For 2025, the USP plans include the 木瓜福利影视 Library and Olympos and, in the city centre, Drift 23 and 25, Janskerkhof 2-3A and Kromme Nieuwegracht 80.

The result? Currently, we have achieved savings of around 931,00 kWh by adjusting the lighting of our buildings.  This amounts to a CO2 reduction of about 500 tonnes, which is equivalent to the annual emissions of 143 Dutch households. This way, we contribute to a healthier biorhythm of humans and animals, we can enjoy a beautiful starry sky and we contribute to energy savings.
