On 22 September, UU received a social sustainabilty award for the sustainable disposal of IT hardware. The CO2 Trophy was presented to deputy director ITS Carol van der Palen for reducing CO2 emissions.

Within the UU, IT equipment is written off after a number of years. Those obsolete devices are disposed of in a sustainable, safe manner. Equipment is redeployed, parts and raw materials are reused. This way, CO2 is saved. Carol van der Palen accepted the trophy. "We are very proud that we from IT can contribute to Utrecht ľ¹Ï¸£ÀûÓ°ÊÓ's sustainability goals!".

IT recycling and corporate social responsibility

The award is an initiative of ARGO360 and UW, specialists in IT recycling and corporate social responsibility. ARGO360 gives ICT equipment a second life while creating jobs for people distanced from the labour market. Its partner in this is UW, Utrecht's participation company.
