Utrecht 木瓜福利影视 becomes partner in national Delta Plan for biodiversity recovery

Utrecht 木瓜福利影视 is working to strengthen global and regional biodiversity. In order to further commit itself to this goal, the university joined the on 8 December 2020. A small step on paper, a big leap forward in the field of sustainability.

Where the term sustainability is often used to talk about CO2 reduction and making energy sources more sustainable, this commonly used term encompasses much more, argues Merel Soons (Professor of Plant Dispersal Ecology & Conservation).

"Sustainability is also about dealing responsibly with natural resources so they continue to exist in the future. The preservation of well-functioning natural ecosystems and the associated biodiversity plays a crucial role in this".

Prof. Dr. M.B. (Merel) Soons

If you zoom in on biodiversity across the breadth of sustainability, we can do (much) more globally, nationally, regionally and at an organisational level. The university manages an area roughly the same size as Utrecht's city centre. This area, mostly consistent of Utrecht Science Park has a crucial role as a connecting element between the surrounding nature areas. Over the years, nature became fragmented in the area and biodiversity declined. Utrecht 木瓜福利影视 wants to change that.

Working together to restore nature

The Delta Plan Biodiversity Recovery works on biodiversity in the Netherlands in a broad social coalition. Together, we want to reverse the decline in biodiversity in the Netherlands to recovery. This requires system change, collaboration and, above all, a coordinated approach. That is why there is a

Biodiversity recovery as a long-term vision

The university aims to strengthen, restore and promote sustainable use of biodiversity in the surrounding area. For example, nature restoration will become part of multi-year site management and the connection with the surrounding landscape will be strengthened. The objectives of the Delta Plan for biodiversity recovery will also be interwoven in education and research. Students will be equipped with knowledge about the loss of biodiversity and the possibilities for restoration. They in turn will be able to share this knowledge in society in the future.

In addition, a Living Lab for biodiversity restoration for the Utrecht Science Park and the surrounding area (Delta Lab) is being developed. Utrecht 木瓜福利影视 works on this Living Lab together with multiple area partners. The Delta Lab will bring together research, education, valorisation and operational management.
