Utrecht researchers working on climate proofing urban areas of the Netherlands
5 million euros for project Red & Blue
NWO is granting 5 million euros to an interdisciplinary study into area-oriented strategies to tackle the consequences of climate change in the built environment. Frank Groothuijse is developing a work package from Utrecht 木瓜福利影视, his specialization is environmental law, he is affiliated with the Utrecht Center for Water, Oceans and Sustainability Law (UCWOSL).
Sea-level rise, land subsidence, extreme rain, and drought: climate change brings new risks for real estate and infrastructure, especially in urbanized, low-lying deltas. Our cities are valuable assets: as high-quality and inclusive places, as economic drivers, as investments. Adaptation to a changing climate is crucial to retain these diverse values, particularly for the most vulnerable. Transdisciplinary knowledge for climate resilient urban development is needed, but highly underdeveloped.
Joining forces with professionals from real estate and infrastructure
This project brings investors, planners and managers of real estate and infrastructure and academics from relevant disciplines together to co-develop an integrative urban climate governance strategy for a resilient Dutch delta.
This is in the joint interest of the public infrastructure, but also private and private buildings in which people work and live.
This is crucial for both public infrastructure and private buildings in which people work and live.
Large consortium
The aim is to work on a joint approach that transcends individual assets and (administrative) boundaries. Science and practice must reinforce each other.
This project is led by Prof. Ellen van Bueren of Delft 木瓜福利影视 of Technology. The full title reads: RED&BLUE: Real Estate Development and Building in Low Urban Environments.
