As autumn draws near and everyone settles back from their holidays, we would like to reflect on the recent summer visit back to campus during the annual Graduation BBQ. On June 2nd, campus opened its gates to many returning alumni, bringing together old friends, class mates, current students and of course allowing us to congratulate the graduating year.

The UCAA Graduation BBQ this year collaborated with the MusicCo Summer Festival to provide a vibrant atmosphere with food, ice cream, drinks and live music. We were once again reminded just how talented many of the people who attend UCU are, as different performances wowed us throughout the afternoon.

The BBQ was a great success, especially the vegetarian burgers from the De Vegetarische Slager, which seemed to be the fastest consumed item on the grill. The big turnout of returning alumni and recent graduates made for great conversations on upcoming masters, gap years, internships and of course the never-ending struggle of finding housing, as people queued for seconds at the baked sweet potatoes stand. An interesting observation for us was the overwhelming numbers of people who opted for the vegetarian meal option – maybe next year’s BBQ should be entirely veggie? What do you think? Alas, we can’t stay in our beloved bubble forever, however we are always thankful to the UCSA whom always provide a welcoming space for alumni to return and whose incoming board of 2018-2019 helped make this event a smooth success. We all on the UCAA Board would like to take this final chance to warmly welcome the Class of 2021 and wish the Class of 2017, our recent graduated the best of luck as they step outside and breathe the free air once again!

And as a parting note; we wish to remind you that the UCAA board is looking for a new Events Coordinator and Alumni-Student Relations Officer to complete the team.
