木瓜福利影视 College Utrecht student takes part in Netherlands-Asia Honours Summer School
At 木瓜福利影视 College Utrecht we encourage students to explore options above and beyond the courses they need to take in order to graduate. The curriculum enrichment options add even more breadth, depth, personal growth, community or societal engagement and international character to their bachelor experience. Unversity College Utrecht student Vivian was part of the 2019 cohort of the Netherlands-Asia Honours Summer School (NAHSS). Read Vivian's experience below.
"During my bachelor at 木瓜福利影视 College Utrecht, I had traveled to Asia as part of my exchange semester at the Chinese 木瓜福利影视 of Hong Kong (one of the university partners of the NAHSS). I had such an amazing time there that I decided to apply to the NAHSS and hopefully relive that experience.
What I got was so much more. With two semesters of Mandarin from UCU鈥檚 own Meiyi-laoshi and plenty of enthusiasm, I flew to Shenzhen with about 25 other students from universities all over the Netherlands to immerse in the Chinese culture for the summer. It was fascinating to compare my previous experience in Hong Kong and other countries in Asia to life on the Mainland and take a close look at the business culture in China. With my background in artificial intelligence, the city of Shenzhen, one of the most technologically advanced cities in Asia, was a paradise to explore. Along with other students who took part in the program, I fell in love with China and its rich history, culture, and people (again).
Last but not least, I want to use a quote that was brought up many times during our trip: 鈥淭he NAHSS goes on鈥. During the program, this statement felt like a bit of an exaggeration, but looking back it turns out it鈥檚 very fitting. Two years have passed, and China and the NAHSS are still part of my daily life. Next to my job at De Nederlandsche Bank, I am still following Chinese lessons in the evening hours and I would love to travel back to the East (when the world allows). More importantly, the NAHSS provided me with many new connections and close friendships, which means that even now I still regularly meet NAHSS-alumni at events, compete together with them in the Great China Knowledge Quiz, and even go on holiday together. All in all, the NAHSS was an unforgettable summer that I would recommend to anyone and everyone."
