Triple-I Impulse Fund
The Triple-I Community of Utrecht Life Sciences presents a call for proposals to stimulate collaboration within the community. The aim of the Triple-I Impulse Fund is to promote collaboration within the community through facilitating new encounters, connections and partnerships between the three faculties and collaborating institutions. Do you have an idea for building new bridges within the Triple-I community? Fill in the submission form, no idea is wild enough!
The Triple-I Impulse Fund can be used to cover costs of collaborative activities such as network building, conducting studies to collect pilot data for a grant proposal, revision of an education program, preparing a research proposal, or organization of a workshop or a Citizen Science project. Here, we note that the intended collaboration must differ from an already existing collaboration, even if the proposed research or line of research remains similar. The call is open to postdocs, assistant/associate/full professors, as well as professors by special appointment, from the UMCU, UU, PMC, the Hubrecht Institute, RIVM and the Westerdijk Fungal Biodiversity Institute. Members of the assessment committee can participate in applications but will not take part in the assessment of such proposals. You can participate as academic applicant only in one application (except facilities). Collaboration with industry partners in Utrecht Science Park or beyond is encouraged and numbers of applications from these parties are not restricted.
Budget
Successful projects will receive funding of €10,000 up to 15,0000 each.
Submission
Applications should be submitted by the lead applicant in .pdf format to Triple-I@umcutrecht.nl.
Evaluation
Applications are reviewed by an assessment committee formed by a selected group of Triple-I researchers covering the broad spectrum of Triple-I research themes. The committee evaluates proposals based on collaborative efforts across faculties within the community and with industry partners and other institutions in Utrecht Science Park, relevance for Triple-I community research disciplines and goals, unmet needs, and feasibility. The committee advises the board on the prioritization of eligible proposals. Decisions are expected approximately up to 12 weeks after the submission deadline.
Funded recipients are asked to present interim results or outcomes of their collaborative work at the next Triple-I scientific conference in February 2026.
Application Form
Applicants must complete the Application Form Triple-I Impulse Fund 2025. The application form covers the following topics:
- What is the purpose, relevance, unmet needs, challenges and support requested?
- What is the synergy between at least two faculties or disciplines of the community (Infection Biology, Immunology and Immuno-Oncology)?
- What is the expected output of the project? e.g., a joint paper, an interdisciplinary research proposal.
- What is the research/work/action plan, timeline, expected output, and the potential both for the applicants and the Triple-I community?

The submission deadline for Triple-I Impulse Fund is 12 September 2025.
