Treating animals responsibly: how do you do that?
Utrecht ľ¹Ï¸£ÀûÓ°ÊÓ and Wageningen ľ¹Ï¸£ÀûÓ°ÊÓ & Research launch Centre for Sustainable Animal Stewardship
What is the best way to deal with animals? What is ‘good’ in general? How can people and animals live in harmony together? The new Centre for Sustainable Animal Stewardship (CenSAS) will look for answers to these questions through an open dialogue between society and the scientific community. CenSAS is a collaborative effort by Utrecht ľ¹Ï¸£ÀûÓ°ÊÓ and Wageningen ľ¹Ï¸£ÀûÓ°ÊÓ & Research. The centre was officially launched on 9 May 2017.
Some people think that we should not use animals for food or entertainment lightly, while for others animals are mainly a source of income. One person might not have a problem hunting deer or wild boars, while another might be strongly opposed to the practice. There are as many differing opinions about animals as there are competing interests. It is therefore much more difficult to find answers and solutions that all of the parties involved can agree to, much less arrive at the careful and responsible treatment of animals.
Connection through dialogue
The Centre for Sustainable Animal Stewardship aims to bring together parties with divergent opinions or interests and to spark an open dialogue between scientists, stakeholders and the rest of society. Utrecht ľ¹Ï¸£ÀûÓ°ÊÓ and Wageningen ľ¹Ï¸£ÀûÓ°ÊÓ & Research together possess considerable scientific expertise in the field of animal-related issues. By combining their knowledge with the ideas and visions present in society, CenSAS hopes to contribute to the sustainable and responsible treatment of animals
