In this podcast series, Brianne McGonigle Leyh and Tessa Diphoorn explore the promise and ideal of interdisciplinarity by looking at travelling concepts: concepts that travel within and across disciplines. This month, Kushtrim Istrefi and Rebecca Bryant discuss how the concept of ‘sovereignty’ is used in different contexts and disciplines.

Kushtrim is Assistant Professor of Human Rights Law and Public International Law (UU) and is academic coordinator of the Master's programme in Public International Law. He is part of the Netherlands Institute of Human Rights (SIM) and the Utrecht Centre for Accountability and Liability Law (UCALL). He is especially interested in the European Convention on Human Rights and its intersection with international law and security.

Rebecca is Professor of Cultural Anthropology (UU) and holds teaching and research positions at the London School of Economics, George Mason ľ¹Ï¸£ÀûÓ°ÊÓ, and the American ľ¹Ï¸£ÀûÓ°ÊÓ in Cairo. She is an anthropologist of politics and law whose work has focused on ethnic conflict and displacement, border practices, post-conflict reconciliation, and contested sovereignty on both sides of the Cyprus Green Line, as well as in Greece and Turkey.
