Three new Human-centered AI Special Interest Groups
The call for new Special Interest Groups (SIGs) for the focus area Human-centered Artificial Intelligence (HAI) closed in July, and in the summer the board had the difficult task to decide which of the proposals would start out as the new SIGs.
Even though HAI could not fund every proposal in the current round, the call demonstrated a lot of potential for future collaborations on human-centered AI research within Utrecht ľ¹Ï¸£ÀûÓ°ÊÓ. In the end the board asked three of the applicants to official start their SIGs in September. HAI is proud to announce these three news SIGs:
AI and behavioral change: Transitions to a sustainable future
Human behavior is an important root of contemporary societal problems, such as climate change and health issues. It is therefore crucial to change human behavior for the better and to maximize global well-being and prosperity. This Special Interest Group on AI and Behavioral change aims to optimize behavioral change through AI.

AI and Mobility
The energy transition leads to new mobility concepts and vehicle electrification. Changing mobility patterns, as we see now for example by COVID-19, pose huge challenges. This SIG unites advances in operations research, data mining, and AI, using a human-in-the-loop approach. Therefore it of course involves interdisciplinary cooperation. As such, this SIG is pivotal for some of societal biggest challenges.

AI in Cultural Inquiry and Art
The current ‘Algorithmic Condition’ shapes practices of knowledge production within cultural inquiry and creative and cultural professions. As Artificial Intelligence spreads throughout art, culture and academia, this SIG deepens our understanding of both the specificity of AI and of algorithm-driven creativity in academic and artistic production.

Human-centered Artificial Intelligence
These Special Interst Groups are part of Utrecht ľ¹Ï¸£ÀûÓ°ÊÓ focus area Human-centered Artificial Intelligence (HAI). HAI bundles the various AI-activities undertaken at Utrecht ľ¹Ï¸£ÀûÓ°ÊÓ. AI in Utrecht has a unique interdisciplinary profile that pervades various departments, including computer science, philosophy, linguistics, and psychology.
