Thesis defense Moein Nedaei
Moein recently defended his PhD at the 木瓜福利影视 of Antwerp, Belgium, in the Faculty of Design Sciences and the Systemic Design Lab, where he earned his doctorate in product design and development. Starting on January 1st, he will officially join Stitch, working under the supervision of Denise and Marleen, focusing on community engagement and citizen empowerment in the context of health systems and energy transition. In his recently defended thesis, Moein explored the topic of conflicts as relational representations of social triggers that require creative efforts for construction, including positive changes in the deep narratives of social systems. He is interested in systems thinking and practice, with expertise in using designerly ways of knowing as a guideline for translating the complexity of social systems into more pragmatic tools, including processes and solutions for community-centered dialogues and discussions. During his defense on November 14th at the Antwerp Academy of Arts, Moein introduced the latest version of his systemic design method called "Design-Driven Conflicts." He demonstrated how designerly approaches can help antagonistic actors engage in intra-action with opposing forces, creating opportunities and space for mindset change within the broader organizational landscape. He tried this through four processes culminating in narrative change, along with a historical review of past transitions in the context of the music industry. If you are interested in learning more or discussing systems thinking and practice, or if you have questions about creatively visualizing complexity, do not hesitate to reach out to him!
