The Centre for Sustainable Animal Stewardship celebrates its first anniversary!
Fact sheet 365 days CenSAS
The Centre for Sustainable Animal Stewardship turned one year old! After a successful launch ceremony on 9 May 2017, we have been quite busy. With the fact sheet 鈥365 days CenSAS', we are happy to show some of our activities in the past year.
Since CenSAS aims to bridge between science and society, as one of the first activities meetings with different stakeholder organisations were arranged. In this first exploration and in the context of some of the first pilot projects, we have spoken with more than 90 people from different stakeholder organisations. Together with these stakeholders, we identified over 50 relevant themes on which CenSAS may focus in the coming years. A few of these themes have been selected for a first explorative study, in order to get more insight in the academic and societal background and in the stakeholder attitudes. These studies, so-called 鈥渜uick scans鈥 were performed on a selection of themes, including breeding of poultry and pedigree dogs and the use of ICT in animal use . These quick scans can be used as a starting point for bigger projects that aim at a more in-depth analysis and are designed in cooperation with relevant stakeholders. For the coming period we will expand the quick scan on the treatment of mice and rats in animal pests into such a full project.
Apart from stakeholder interviews and quick scans, we organised different presentations and workshops for a broad audience (both professionals and non-professionals) engaging in animal related topics. Furthermore, we have supervised a number of students doing their thesis or internship with CenSAS.
In all these activities we shared and gained knowledge.
Together with stakeholders and (international) scholars, we now continue our mission: to encourage a sustainable and responsible relationship between humans and animals.
