Taylor & Francis open access cap has been reached

The open access cap of Taylor & Francis has been reached. This means that UU and UMC Utrecht authors will no will no longer receive a 100% discount on open access article publication costs (APCs). 

What are the consequences?

Is your manuscript be accepted for publication between 14 October 2025 and 1 January 2026? Then the publisher will still offer the possibility to publish it open access, but the costs are no longer covered by the consortium agreement. If you opt for open access for a fee, you will receive the invoice yourself. 

What can you do?

  • Would you like to share your article openly in one of this publisher's journals? And do you expect your manuscript to be accepted between 14 October 2025 and 1 January 2026? If so, we advise you to look for other funding options.
  • Have you not yet submitted your article? Then consider waiting until 2026, when new agreements may be concluded.
  • Publish for free in a diamond open access journal. You can find these journals in the . Search for 鈥渏ournals鈥 and filter by 鈥渨ithout fees鈥.
  • You can also choose a journal from another publisher. Use the UU Journal Browser to see whether you, as a UU or UMC Utrecht author, can publish open access (OA) for free or at a discount and under what conditions.
  • You can also use the green open access route, where the article will be open access in the UU repository six months after publication.

About open access deals

The UU and have bought out all or part of the costs for open access publishing in open access deals. This allows a certain number of articles to be published in open access free of charge. However, there is a maximum number of articles that can be published in this way. .
