About the challenge

With this challenge, you create a circular corona quarantine by getting rid of unnecessary belongings. For example, clothes that have been laying in your closet for too long, kitchen utensils you don’t actually use, or gifts you received for your birthday which were a nice gesture but actually not very useful. You can join by yourself or battle against your housemates.

How does it work? On day 1 of the challenge, you get rid of one item per person. On day 2 you get rid of two items, on day 3 three items, all the way up to seven items on day 7! You will declutter your house and mind, making it easier to study properly. Additionally, you can provide a lovely second home for your stuff if you make use of our brand new . Make sure to join the , take a picture of your items daily and send them in the group. The person with the most creative donations receives a non-material gift.

How to participate?

Step 1:  Look up the suSTAY-INable Minimalism Challenge Facebook event. Convince your housemates to participate, or join on your own. It is really motivating to see the donations of others while participating! (but you’re not obliged to join)

Step 2: Get rid of one item on Monday the 11th of May and make a creative picture of it. Share this picture in the Facebook event. Repeat this step for two items on Tuesday the 12th of May, etc up to 7 items on Sunday the 17th of May.

Step 3: If you did not join the Facebook event, or don't have Facebook, send your pictures to Green Office Utrecht ľ¹Ï¸£ÀûÓ°ÊÓ via greenoffice@uu.nl to get a shot at €150 worth of vouchers for cultural activities all around the Netherlands (valid for a long time, so you can use it after the quarantine has ended).

Step 4: Make sure you give your items a circular second home. We launched an  this week, so this could be a good start. Your local Thrift Shop (kringloopwinkel) is also a nice place for your belongings. If the item cannot be reused anymore, make sure to recycle it properly.

Step 5: Getting the hang of minimalist life after a week? Feel free to continue the challenge on your own! Usually, this challenge takes 30 days. Good luck with getting rid of a total of thirty items on day 30…
