Summer and Winter School course on "Network Science"
We are pleased to announce the "Data Science: Network Science" summer course, scheduled to take place from July 10 to 14, 2023 in Utrecht, The Netherlands. The course is designed to provide an exploration of network science, underpinning both the theoretical knowledge and practical skills essential to this multidisciplinary field. We are also pleased to announce that we offer a one-day winter school course on network learning (inference) using R software. The course will take place in the first week of February.
As we delve deeper into the era of interconnected systems, the ability to understand, model, and manipulate these networks is becoming increasingly critical. These courses equip participants with conceptual and practical skills to use network science tools to answer a plethora of social, economic, and biological questions.
The five-day program of summer school course is structured to introduce concepts and tools in network science, followed by hands-on practicals in Python and R. Topics covered include network description, network formation models, community detection, link prediction, network inference, and contagion in networks. Participants are expected to bring their own laptops, with required software available online.
This course is designed for individuals with a technical background who are proficient in English and comfortable programming in Python or R. A basic understanding of algebra, probability, and statistics is also required.
This course is part of a series of seven courses in the Summer School Data Science specialisation taught by UU鈥檚 department of Methodology & Statistics. Upon completing three out of seven courses within five years, students can earn a certificate.
The application deadline is June 26, 2023. For further information see .
