Submit your project for the latest Higher Education Research focus area call

Higher education is changing rapidly and must do so to keep pace with changes in society. Education is increasingly striving for interdisciplinarity, social interaction and flexibility of programs. Currently, the last call of the Higher Education Research focus area is out.

In the Higher Education Research focus area, researchers work together to explore the implications of change for teaching and learning in higher education. In doing so, they aim to improve the quality of teaching and provide an evidence-base for academic teachers and higher education institutions.

The focus area aims to achieve these goals by improving collaboration in higher education research and by increasing the visibility of the field. To this end, the focus area invests in networking events and provides seed funding for collaborative research projects. Several projects have already received seed money; for example, they conducted research on:

  • A framework for the role of teachers in interdisciplinary and flexible education
  • Becoming effective and efficient amid constant change: Higher education for adaptive expertise
  • Study choice processes in flexible degree programs: How diverse interests demand freedom and shape choices
  • Towards a more inclusive UMCU: Examining the effects of bias awareness training for faculty members
  • ...and much more
