Second UniStem Day in the Netherlands, with a twist of Corona

Introduction into stem cell research for high school students

For the second time UniStem Day for high school students was held in The Netherlands. This international event started some years ago in Italy (Milano) and has spread to over 100 universities worldwide (not unlike a virus). The Utrecht version was organised by Massimiliano Caiazzo and here is the twist: he could not attend live himself, since he recently came back from Italy with some mild symptoms. So dr. Caiazzo presented by skype, as can be seen in the video below.

And one more twist: all Italian Universities had to postpone UniStem day since they were closed due to the Coronavirus.

The highly motivated high school students came from and were offered a series of lectures and a lab tour in the Hubrecht lab and in the David de Wied building and the Hugo Kruyt building. They went back home with interest in and knowledge of stem cells and cell and gene therapy.
