Publication: Special Issue on Whiteness in Pandemic Times in China

鈥淧recarious Whiteness in Pandemic Times in China鈥, guest edited by Shanshan Lan, Willy Sier and Aldina Camenisch. Published by Asian Anthropology in 2022.

This special issue was published open access and consists of a collection of five papers, an introduction, and an afterword (by Pauline Leonard) on the experiences of white migrants in China after the Covid-19 outbreak. The issue explores how the effects of the outbreak of Covid-19 in January 2020 have challenged, undermined, and transformed the racialized privileges of various groups of white migrants in China. The articles in the special issue focus on white migrants in four domains: transnational business and entrepreneurship, Chinese-foreign families, digital media platforms, and online English teaching. Together they foreground the highly contested and fragmented nature of white racial formation in a critical historical moment of Covid-19.
