Marleen van Rijswick, professor of European and national water law at Utrecht 木瓜福利影视 gave a lecture to farmers about sustainable water management. She did this at the invitation of Niscoo, an independent knowledge cooperative of dairy farmers and arable farmers.

Fresh water consumption and the future

The lecture, entitled 鈥淭he state of the water鈥 (in Dutch, it was called: De Stand van het water), was the first in a series of lectures on water, organized by Niscoo. In the presentation of Prof. Van Rijswick, questions such as:

  • What does the current fresh water consumption in the Netherlands look like, what is the distribution between users? And which trends are visible in consumption, for example is there a shift to consumers and / or to agriculture? Is agriculture really a growing large-scale consumer or is this incorrect?
  • Will there still be enough fresh water available in the Netherlands in the future for our current and expected use? Is the supply of fresh water decreasing and its use increasing and what problems will this lead to? And what is the role of the climate in this?
  • And what if an imbalance does indeed arise? Will flushing with fresh water to prevent salinization come up for discussion? Or is it conceivable that, for example, structural restrictions will be imposed on irrigation? Are other measures conceivable? Does fresh water storage need to be considered? What prospects are there for the agricultural sector and what challenges will the sector face in the field of water?
