Peerobservation programme for teachers

Teaching has been challenging in recent months: in a practical, but also in a didactical sense. In the near future, teaching will for the most part still take place online. Although the context is different from 'normal', the starting points for good teaching largely remain the same. Exploring how you could improve (your) teaching is now, and will continue to be, an interesting and worthwile endeavour.  One way to do this is through the peerobservation programme.

This programme facilitates teachers to observe each other while teaching (online), in which you learn from both observing and being observed. In three meetings you will be prepared for observation and guided in giving and processing the feedback received and in reflecting on your own development. At the beginning of 2020 (blocks 3 and 4), the programme ran for the first time and these are some experiences of participants:

  • "It's nice to have somebody watching along with you and receiving supportive feedback. You work together in this way to improve education. That's a great thing."
  • 鈥淚 actually learned more from watching and providing feedback than from receiving it鈥
  • 鈥淭his programme has done so much for me; it should be a mandatory and recurring part of teaching!鈥
  • 鈥淚t was great to study another teacher from a different faculty. This allowed me to focus on the form, without being distracted by the contents."
  • "The debriefing (after the observation) helps reflecting on the teaching itself and the learning goal I want to focus on".

Teachers from all disciplines are welcome to participatie. It does not matter whether you are a beginning or very experienced teacher, whether you teach large groups of students or provide individual supervision. In September a new cohort of the peer observation programme will start. Find more information and sign up here or send an email to cat@uu.nl
