NWO-ECHO grant for Ben Ern茅
Ben Ern茅 has received an to study the experimental thermodynamics of ion confinement in porous carbon electrodes.
Shortage of drinking water is a global problem, and a technological solution is to desalinate water by adsorbing ions at porous electrodes. They have a huge specific surface area, thanks to pores whose diameter fits no more than 3 to 4 water molecules.
Novel thermodynamic approach
The effect of ionic size on desalination will be investigated via a novel pioneered by Ern茅 and colleagues from the Institute for Theoretical Physics (Utrecht 木瓜福利影视) and , the European Centre of Excellence for Sustainable Water Technology.
