New Professor of Youth Mental Health Promotion
Marloes Kleinjan has been appointed Professor of Youth Mental Health Promotion at Utrecht ľ¹Ï¸£ÀûÓ°ÊÓ. Professor Kleinjan’s focus will be on improving the mental health of young people. ‘There are many things we do not know yet about young people’s mental health.’
Professor Kleinjan is no stranger to Utrecht ľ¹Ï¸£ÀûÓ°ÊÓ. As head of the Trimbos Institute’s Epidemiology & Research Support programme, she has carried out research on substance abuse (alcohol, drugs and tobacco products) among young people in collaboration with Utrecht ľ¹Ï¸£ÀûÓ°ÊÓ scientists. ‘I will continue to work at the Trimbos Institute alongside my professorship,’ says the newly appointed professor. ‘The chair I will be holding seals the collaboration between the Trimbos Institute and Utrecht ľ¹Ï¸£ÀûÓ°ÊÓ.’
Depression among young people
One of the topics Professor Kleinjan will be researching is depression among young people. ‘We do not know how many young people suffer from depression, as there are no figures about this. Our first priority is to obtain these figures, in order to gain an insight into the size of the problem. This will put us in a better position to assess how we should care for these young people.’
