The Department of Information and Computing Sciences at Utrecht ľ�ϸ���Ӱ�� has introduced a new master's programme in Data Science that is planned to start in September 2023 and is already accepting applications. The program complements the portfolio of programs the department is currently offering. While the existing 1-year Master’s in Applied Data Science, is designed to help professionals apply Data Science in their domains, the new programme is oriented towards creating the professionals that will drive new developments in the Data Science field. The two programmes, alongside the Master’s in AI form a complete education offer for the domain of Data Science and AI. This strengthens further the position Utrecht has in the Data Science Platform Netherlands, the AI Coalition and the Data Science landscape in general.

“Data Science has changed the way we see and use the data. It is a novel data management paradigm that soon became a discipline by itself” says who is leading the program, and continues: “As a new field, it needs its own researchers, innovators, and practitioners, that will push the field forward. Innovating in different application fields through existing Data Science solutions is not enough since new challenges emerge daily that call for novel advancements. For this reason, it is important to provide the necessary training on deep technical understanding and development of new theories and solutions to achieve the necessary breakthroughs.”

Wednesday 12^th of October was the open day for the different master programs of the Graduate School of Natural Sciences. and , the two coordinators of the program have expressed their satisfaction and optimism for the success of the program, given the more than 150 registered participants in the open day.
