Maarten van der Smagt appointed professor
On 1 April 2020, Maarten van der Smagt was appointed professor of Psychological Literacy in Higher Education. As professor, Van der Smagt will use his experience with educational innovation and leadership to improve the quality of education. He will also be setting up a new research line addressing the question of how students can learn to apply their psychological knowledge across the full breadth of society even better.
Van der Smagt participated in the Senior Fellow Programme at the Centre for Academic Teaching. The Senior Fellow Programme was developed by Utrecht 木瓜福利影视 with the aim of strengthening educational leadership. As a result of his having successfully completed the programme, Van der Smagt was nominated for a professorial position with education as special focus area.
Teaching and research
Van der Smagt is director of the Psychology degree programmes and involved in teaching during the Bachelor's, Master's and PhD phases. His teaching primarily concerns academic skills, research skills, cognitive neuroscience and perception. In addition to the new research line mentioned, in his research with the Experimental Psychology Section he is also involved in topics including the interaction between the sensory systems in our brain, and the influence of this on our cognition.
