Event description

LPL is hosting the repair cafe which is organized by the green office. For this event students and colleagues of the UU and HU are helped in fixing their broken items. The event is supported by a community of diligent makers who bring their tools, expertise and time to help fix things that would otherwise be brought to the dump. Visitors are asked to join them and be a part of the repair process, allowing you to learn whilst you watch. 

The community of repairers varies week on week but is likely to include someone who is handy with a sowing machine, a soldering iron and has mechanical knowledge. The LPL can support them with our range of tools, materials and own knowhow. 

The concept of the repair cafe is an antidote to the buy, use, dispose paradigm and also a way to get around planned obsolescence. Its a chance to understand how things work and get better at fixing things yourself. It's not a way to get around using an paid service like a bike mechanic or phone repairer just because it is cheaper.
