Launch of the Utrecht Young Academy
On 27 March 2017, when Utrecht 木瓜福利影视 celebrates its 381st birthday, Markan Oudeman, president of the Executive Board, will launch the Utrecht Young Academy (UYA) at the Dies Natalis ceremony in the Dom Church. The first 24 members of the UYA will be officially appointed. UYA members will also present the UYA mission and discuss its first major project which ties into the theme of the Dies: Town and Gown!
UYA Mission
The UYA brings together a diverse group of young academics who openly exchange critical perspectives on academia, policy and society in Utrecht and beyond. They are committed to multi-disciplinary and inclusive research and education, promoting open science within academia. The group gives a voice to young academics by reaching out to policy-makers in order to influence science and education policy in and outside Utrecht. They also strive to engage with the public in order to make science accessible to everyone and to promote scholarly thinking in society.
UYA Project: 鈥淯trecht Science Mysteries鈥
In addition to a number of smaller projects throughout the year, the UYA will organize a larger project in cooperation with the Centre for Science Communication and Culture of Utrecht 木瓜福利影视 and the city of Utrecht. The project, entitled 鈥淯trecht Science Mysteries鈥, will be an educational science adventure game competition for primary school children. In this game, children become scientists for an afternoon and learn how to apply scientific skills and knowledge to solve a mystery occurring in the city of Utrecht. In a race against time, they will learn how important collaboration, diversity and scientific logic are for solving important real-life problems.
