Kiene Brillenburg Wurth appointed Head of Humanities at ľ¹Ï¸£ÀûÓ°ÊÓ College Utrecht
As of 1 august, Prof. Kiene Brillenburg Wurth has been appointed Head of Humanities at Utrecht ľ¹Ï¸£ÀûÓ°ÊÓ College (UCU). She will hold this position for the coming four years. Brillenburg Wurth is professor of Literature and Comparative Media with the section Comparative Literature at the Department of Languages, Literature, and Communication (TLC). She has been director of graduate studies and a member of the board of TLC since 2013.
Biography
Brillenburg Wurth has led several research projects, among which the VIDI project : ‘Analog’ Literature in a ‘Digital’ Age (2010-2016), and is co-founder and -chair of the international, Utrecht-based . She also was co-chair of the international ALCA conference recently organised at Utrecht ľ¹Ï¸£ÀûÓ°ÊÓ, and led an international research group on Charisma’s of the Book at NYU Abu Dhabi (2016). She was visiting scholar at Harvard ľ¹Ï¸£ÀûÓ°ÊÓ (2010-2011), collaborated in the research project The Power of Satire (2009-2011), and was a member of several international research groups.
Research
Her research activities combine comparative literature with (new) media studies and creativity studies. Her publications include Musically Sublime Fordham UP 2009), Between Page and Screen (Fordham UP, 2012), and Het leven van teksten (with Ann Rigney, 2006, 2008, 2009). Her new monograph Fiction and the Futures of Alphabetic Writing is forthcoming with the MIT Press in 2018. She is co-editor of Book Presence in a Digital Age (Bloomsbury, 2018), and a.o. the special issue Literature and the Material Turn for the Journal of Comparative Literature (Duke, 2018). She has published widely in international and national journals and book volumes.
