K.F. Hein Fund awards grants to six public health projects of our university
Six Life Sciences projects at Utrecht 木瓜福利影视 were recently awarded grants from the K.F. Hein Fund. Our own Utrecht 木瓜福利影视 fund and the K.F. Hein Fund have maintained a warm relationship for years. Among other things, the fundraisers of the Utrecht 木瓜福利影视 Fund annually coordinate a grant application for university projects in the field of Public Health. This now results in these grants.
The K.F. Hein Fund is an Utrecht asset fund that supports Utrecht initiatives that are important for (the region of) Utrecht. The fund has for many years provided grants for special projects of Utrecht 木瓜福利影视. Fundraisers from the Utrecht 木瓜福利影视 Fund help scientists and university staff to submit successful applications. For projects in the field of public health this is done via a coordinated application.
It's fantastic that once again six special university research projects can be carried out this year. For example, research into the mental health of MBO students in times of corona.
These six projects are now receiving support from the K.F. Hein Fund:
1. Algae and 3D bioprinting - Prof. Dr. Ir. Jos Malda - Life Sciences - UMC Utrecht
Research into the possible combination of algae with 3D techniques in order to make the step towards bioprinting of larger tissues such as cartilage, heart and liver.
2. Holmium against brain tumours - Dr. Bas van Nimwegen - Life Sciences - Faculty of Veterinary Medicine
Research into a new treatment method for brain tumours in animals and humans using radioactive holmium pellets, accompanied by CT or MRI scans.
3. Mental health of MBO students in coronation time - Dr. Gonneke Stevens - Dynamics of Youth
How do MBO students recover from the mental problems they reported during the corona period? A study into their mental health, which will take place after the large-scale vaccination campaign.
4. Rare cancer of the adrenal medulla - Dr. Sara Galac - Life Sciences - Faculty of Veterinary Medicine
Research on pheochromocytoma, a rare cancer of the adrenal medulla, which affects both dogs and humans.
5. Immune therapy for cancer - Dr. Karijn Suijkerbuijk - Life Sciences - UMC Utrecht
Research on gut bacteria (microbiome) in immunotherapy: predicting who gets what side effects and can the microbiome be influenced to better tolerate the therapy?
6. Brain injury in children - Dr. Tanja Nijboer - Life Sciences - Faculty of Social Sciences
Research into the use of Virtual Reality Serious Game for recovery after brain injury. For this project the Utrecht 木瓜福利影视 Fund also raises funds from alumni through its annual Pay it forward campaign.
Utrecht 木瓜福利影视 Fund
The Utrecht 木瓜福利影视 Fund is our university's charity desk and raises and manages philanthropic donations for Utrecht 木瓜福利影视. Alumni, (former) employees and other stakeholders donate to scientific research and education, or to the preservation of the academic heritage and a lively study climate. The fund also helps in fundraising other than through the regular academic funding streams. For example, by advising on and submitting grant applications to other capital funds or by supervising fundraising activities at companies.
