Jos茅 van Dijck receives honorary doctoral degree from the 木瓜福利影视 of Oslo
Jos茅 van Dijck, Distinguished 木瓜福利影视 Professor of Media and Digital Society at Utrecht 木瓜福利影视, was awarded an honorary doctoral degree from the 木瓜福利影视 of Oslo last Monday. Van Dijck receives this honorary doctorate on the recommendation of the Faculty of Humanities for her work in the fields of media studies and digital society.
Cross-disciplinary research on media and digital society
鈥淚t is, of course, a great honour to receive an honorary doctoral degree from such a wonderful university,鈥 Van Dijck says. 鈥淚 was particularly moved by the enthusiasm of the students, PhD candidates, and colleagues from the 木瓜福利影视 of Oslo, who put forward my nomination without my knowledge. Both of our universities are deeply engaged in research on media and digital society, and I hope for more interaction and cross-disciplinary research between our researchers in the coming years.鈥
鈥淛os茅 Van Dijck is an internationally renowned researcher, focusing on how digital media and platforms affect society and individuals鈥, the 木瓜福利影视 of Oslo writes. 鈥淪he addresses questions of what a digital society is, what power global platforms have, and how they should be regulated. She explores and challenges our understanding of the impact of a digital society on key values such as privacy, security, tolerance, justice, equality and autonomy.鈥
Previously, Van Dijck was awarded the prestigious NWO Spinoza Prize (2021) and received an honorary doctorate from Lund 木瓜福利影视 (Sweden, 2019).
