Joining forces for sustainability knowledge and innovation
Next step for Utrecht Sustainability Institute amplifying its projects with impact in the Utrecht region
The Utrecht Sustainability Institute (USI) celebrates its tenth anniversary and takes on a new form: after a great start and successful maturation within Utrecht 木瓜福利影视, USI becomes an independent organization. With this step USI widens its expertise and can respond in a flexible way to the increasing number of challenges and opportunities for sustainable innovation in the Utrecht region.
USI works towards sustainable cities
has been working since 2011 on sustainability knowledge, innovation and impact, starting from the Utrecht region. The institute forges consortia consisting of knowledge institutes, companies, authorities and social organizations. The common goal is to develop knowledge and solutions towards urban sustainable development through research and innovation projects that USI initiates and leads. In order to translate novel knowledge into practical impact, USI also offers a platform for knowledge sharing, inspiration and social debate. USI organizes for instance the national action oriented debates Circular Economy Labs.
Collaboration between UU and USI
USI leads a broad range of research and innovation projects in which UU is involved. There are strong ties with the Copernicus Institute for Sustainable Development of the Faculty of Geosciences, for instance around the circular area transformation in , located in Utrecht. Both the Faculty of Geosciences and the Faculty of Social Sciences are involved in the building renovation system . Concerning the sustainable energy system , USI not only works with the Faculty of Geosciences but also with the UU department of Real Estate and Campus in the living lab Utrecht Science Park. In the European project , four research groups of the Faculty of Geosciences and Faculty of Law, Economics and Governance are involved.
Joining forces in cooperation
Now USI, previously embedded in the Faculty of Geosciences, enters a new phase. As of 2021, USI is a not-for-profit cooperative, uniting partners specialized in sustainability research and innovation. The institute continues to collaborate closely with the university and other knowledge and innovation parties in the Utrecht region.
The number of challenges and opportunities for urban sustainable development has increased strongly the last number of years. To be able to respond to this increase in a flexible and demand-driven way with more variation in expertise, the USI cooperative (USI Co枚peratie U.A. in Dutch) was founded. The are Arno Peekel, Bart van der Ree, Bert van der Zwaan, Carolien van Hemel, Jacqueline Cramer, Tony Schoen and Yvonne Hofman.
USI is and continues to be a collaboration between experts in sustainable innovation. In its new form USI can, together with fellow-researchers, enterprises and authorities, contribute even more vigorously to the sustainability challenges of our time.
