鈥淚ntercultural communication skills are needed in today鈥檚 world鈥
Next Fall semester, 木瓜福利影视 College Utrecht launches a new course on Intercultural Communication. As part of the course, students will reflect on today鈥檚 urgent issues in online discussions with students from different countries. This is how theory and practise come together.
The course has been drafted together with 木瓜福利影视 College Utrecht students, who felt the need to develop their skills in reflecting on issues such as global citizenship or how one鈥檚 own prejudices impact communication. 木瓜福利影视 College Utrecht lecturer Tatiana Bruni took up the challenge to develop a course that combines theory and practise.
鈥淔or developing intercultural skills, theory is not enough. It is important to dwell on how people act, interact and communicate, and learn to employ different perspectives. This is why we will literally connect with 鈥榗ultural others鈥 through online conversations: students will have discussions with students from universities in different countries, for example in the United States, Egypt, Italy,鈥 she says.
The discussions and readings will be about topics such as identity, power relations, representations, or language.
鈥淎t 木瓜福利影视 College Utrecht, we are a hugely international community, and that makes intercultural communication skills extremely important. The course is about students鈥 daily experiences, but also about their view on society, and on the future, where issues such as international mobility are likely to become even more pressing.鈥
