Henk Kummeling elected as CoARA chair

Henk Kummeling was elected the new chair of the Coalition on Advancing Research Assessment (CoARA) on 9 December 2025. He takes over this role, a secondary position, from the date of the election, from Rianne Letschert, president of Maastricht 木瓜福利影视.

Together with other Dutch universities, Utrecht 木瓜福利影视 is working hard on the transition to open science. But successfully changing the global system of how science is practised also requires international cooperation. Through the Coalition on Advancing Research Assessment (CoARA) for example.

CoARA is an international network of research organisations working to reform the evaluation and assessment of research and researchers. Current research assessment methods are heavily based on publications, such as citation counts, and often fail to recognise the wide range of contributions made by researchers. More than 700 universities, research organisations and funders are members of CoARA, including all Dutch universities.

The transition to open science will only succeed if we tackle this internationally, which is why I am happy to commit to CoARA.

Members commit to around ten obligations, such as using qualitative assessment criteria and avoiding the use of university rankings in assessing research and teaching. Since 2023, Utrecht 木瓜福利影视 no longer provides information for the international rankings of Times Higher Education and others. See: Why UU is missing in the THE ranking
