Hans-Gerritsen appointed as Professor of Nanoscopy and Microscopy of Complex Systems

The Executive Board has appointed Dr. Hans Gerritsen as Professor of Nanoscopy and Microscopy of Complex Systems at the Department of Physics and Astronomy and the Debye Institute. In the past decade, Gerritsen was Professor by Special Appointment of Laser Physics of Complex Biological Systems thanks to the Utrecht 木瓜福利影视 Fund.  The new chair is in recognition of his great contributions to both Molecular Life Sciences and research into new materials.

New methods

Gerritsen is working on the development and use of new methods in the area of fluorescence (confocal) light microscopy, combined with spectroscopy and electron microscopy. For this work, he cooperates with physicists, chemists, biologists and material scientists. In addition, he has been successful in his cooperation with companies, including Nikon, Fei, Philips and Unilever.

Cooperation electron microscopy

With his chair, Gerritsen will strengthen the Soft Condensed Matter & Biophysics group as well as research into colloids and biophysics. Furthermore, the chair is an addition to the appointment of Dr. J眉rgen Plitzko as Professor of Biomolecular Electron Microscopy at the Department of Chemistry. Both professors are going to play an important part in closer university cooperation in the area of electron microscopy.
