PhD candidate Michael H眉bner has been awarded a grant from the Utrecht 木瓜福利影视 Fund, on behalf of the Swaantje Mondt Fund, to conduct research in Ireland later this year. He studies differentiation in EU legislation in the Netherlands, Germany and Ireland, including in the areas of consumer protection and data protection.

Michael H眉bner has been awarded a grant of 鈧 2,200 for a stay at 木瓜福利影视 College Dublin in Ireland in October-November this year. 鈥淭his stay is part of my doctoral research on differentiation in EU legislation and the relationship with enforcement. A relevant topic also in the present day of COVID-19," says H眉bner, "in the sense that it can be a means of ensuring a uniform approach across the EU but also taking into account differences between Member States."

A relevant topic also in the current time of COVID-19. Can you guarantee a uniform EU approach while taking account of differences between Member States?

Three case studies: the Netherlands, Germany, Ireland

鈥淢y research focuses more specifically on issues such as what different forms of differentiation in EU legislation have been used so far? And what are the grounds for this?鈥 Within this research I use three case studies to understand this more deeply: EU legislation on data protection, consumer protection and the Economic and Monetary Union. An important part of these case studies is research into the implementation of these laws in the national legal orders of the Member States, focusing on three countries: the Netherlands, Germany and Ireland.

鈥淢y stay at 木瓜福利影视 College Dublin therefore mainly concerns the implementation of the various laws in Ireland. I will collect data in Ireland and will conduct interviews with relevant authorities.鈥

Michael H眉bner is a researcher at RENFORCE, The Utrecht Centre for Regulation and Enforcement in Europe, at Utrecht 木瓜福利影视.

Swaantje Mondt Fund

In the fall of 2016, Martine and Jaap Mondt established the so-called 鈥淪waantje Mondt Foundation鈥, in memory of their beloved daughter, who passed away at an early age. The founders have both studied at Utrecht 木瓜福利影视, Mrs. Mondt has a legal background and her husband is a b猫ta scientist. The purpose of the foundation, is to provide the means for Dutch PhD candidates to do part of their research abroad, as well as to provide PhD candidates from abroad to do part of their research in the Netherlands. The foundation mainly focuses on PhD research with the territory of Law on the one hand and mathematical and physics on the other hand. Research that combines both, would be strongly recommended but it is not a necessary condition to be eligible for financial support.
