Global Ocean Regime Conference

On June 20-21, Richard Caddell participated at the 2017 Global Ocean Regime Conference in Seoul, Republic of Korea. The conference, organised by the Korea Maritime Institute, examined the implications of the South China Sea Award for international law.

Richard Caddell, Senior Research Associate at the Netherlands Institute for the Law of the Sea (NILOS), considered the implications of the Award for fisheries management. He outlined the responses to the three fisheries-related issues raised by the submissions of the Philippines and considered the consequences of the Award with particular reference to historic fishing rights and the position of artisanal fisheries.
