Future Food Utrecht appoints three ambassadors

The Future Food Board is very happy and proud to announce it has appointed three Future Food ambassadors: Herman Lelieveldt, Jerry van Dijk and Guido van den Ackerveken. Starting January 2019, the ambassadors will help to further promote our FFU research profile both in and outside the university. They will focus on enhancing research opportunities and collaborations within four FFU topics: Immune resilience, Food, behavior and culture, Nature Inspired Food Production and Food Fairness.

Dr. Herman Lelieveldt

Dr. Herman Lelieveldt

Herman Lelieveldt is associate professor of political science at 木瓜福利影视 College Roosevelt and holds the Jean Monnet Chair on Food Governance in the EU.
His research revolves around analyzing the respective roles of the state, market, civil society and citizens in making the food system more sustainable.
As ambassador he aspires to better connect the different insights from law and social science to those of science. Such an approach is indispensable in order to move away from the sectoral approach to a  truly integrated food policy.

Dr. Jerry van Dijk

Dr. Jerry van Dijk

Jerry van Dijk is Assistant Professor Restoration Ecology and Biodiversity Conservation at the Copernicus Institute of Sustainable Development at the Faculty of Geosciences.
His research and teaching focus on the impact of environmental change on ecosystems. Recognizing that the cause of environmental change is often related to unsustainable agriculture, he also works on enhancing the sustainability of our food system.
His ambition as Future Food ambassador is to connect research across disciplines to provide solutions to the challenge of reducing the environmental impacts of food production, while securing the provision of enough and healthy food for a growing world population.

Prof.dr. Guido van den Ackerveken

Prof.dr. Guido van den Ackerveken

Guido van den Ackerveken is professor of Translational Plant & Microbial Biology at the Institute of Environmental Biology of the Faculty of Science.
He is fascinated by plant disease, understanding what makes plants susceptible to infection, and how that can be translated to improve crops and methods of protection for sustainable agriculture.
The goal of his ambassadorship is to stimulate the translation of knowledge, generated within Future Food, to applications in sustainable food production, to improve societal impact, but also to increase funding opportunities for basic food-related research at Utrecht 木瓜福利影视.
