‘Food in Motion’

In the round "Housing and living in a healthy neighborhood and environment" ZonMW has  recently awarded funding to the project ‘Food in Motion’. This project arose from the collaboration between researchers from the Faculty of Social en Behavioral Sciences, the Faculty of Geosciences  and the ľ¹Ï¸£ÀûÓ°ÊÓ Medical Center Utrecht in a Future Food Utrecht Seed Money project with the same title. Prof.dr. Denise de Ridder (Chair Health Psychology) leads the project. Co-applicants in this project are  Dr. Jeroen Benjamins (Psychology) , Prof. dr. Martin. Dijst (Chair Spatial mobility and urban development), Dr. Marleen Gillebaart (Psychology), Dr. Maartje Poelman (Human geography and Planning), Prof. dr. Yvonne van der Schouw (Chair Chronic Disease Epidemiology at the UMCU) and  Ms. Annemarie Gout and  Mr. Niek Verlaan (Healthy Neigborhoods,  Utrecht Municipality).

This project aims to facilitate healthy snack consumption in underprivileged neighborhoods in a large city by analyzing food navigation patterns. Based on this analysis and in collaboration with the city's public health department and local welfare organisations a mobile snack device will be developed to accommodate healthy snack choices at critical places and times.

Effect will be determined in terms of healthy snack choice in relation to meals and activity and -in the long term- healthy eating habits and healthy eater identitity.
