First Scientific Advisory Board (SAB) meeting Judicial Jurisdiction project

The first Scientific Advisory Board (SAB) meeting of the project was held on Zoom on 17 December 2020. This meeting was divided into two sessions (one closed session and one open session). During the closed session, PhD researcher Danae Georgoula and research assistant presented their research. This was an opportunity to discuss the current and future activities of the project with the SAB members Professor Liesbeth Lijnzaad (Maastricht 木瓜福利影视, ITLOS), Judge Tomas Heidar (ITLOS), Dr. Theresa Squatrito (LSE), Professor Geir Ulfstein (木瓜福利影视 of Oslo) and Dr. Jos Philips (Utrecht 木瓜福利影视).

The open session was comprised of a guest lecture by , who is an Assistant Professor in International Organizations in the Department of International Relations at LSE, and an associated researcher at PluriCourts (Centre for the Study of the Legitimate Roles of the Judiciary in the Global Order) at the 木瓜福利影视 of Oslo. Dr. Squatrito鈥檚 lecture focused on the concept of performance of international courts (ICs), which provides a window into understanding effectiveness, while also capturing a wider set of concerns related to the functioning and effects of international adjudicative bodies. Drawing on methodological insights from political science, Dr. Squatrito discussed the ways in which the performance can be empirically studied and analyzed.
