The multidisciplinary expertise in the field of spinal surgery at UMC Utrecht has been officially recognized by the international organization EUROSPINE. The appointment as a "Surgical Spine Center of Excellence" applies for the next four years.

We are proud of this appointment, as one of the two centers of expertise in the Netherlands.

Over the past twelve years, a great deal of knowledge and experience has been acquired by the multidisciplinary team of spinal neurosurgeons, spinal orthopedics, rehabilitation doctors, radiotherapists, neurologists, anesthesiologists, plaster cast masters, and physical therapists, in close collaboration with the traumatology department. Orthopedic surgeon, professor of spinal surgery and PI at Regenerative Medicine Utrecht, Cumhur Öner: “This collaboration is extremely valuable for the patient. We have very specific knowledge and experience with the operative and non-operative treatment of complex disorders of the spine. We see patients from all over the Netherlands, but we also train spine surgeons in our fellowship program. We help patients with complex vertebral disorders like vertebral fractures due to trauma or metastasis of tumors, bone cancer, infections or serious malformations. In all these areas, we have been assessed and certified by EUROSPINE as a center of excellence in the spinal field. We are proud of this appointment, as one of the two centers of expertise in the Netherlands.”
