‘Future-proof Skills’ better prepare students for jobs

Together with prominent employers, Utrecht ľ¹Ï¸£ÀûÓ°ÊÓ has developed a programme to even better prepare master students for future jobs.

Future-proof Skills

Within the programme "Future-proof Skills", the Dutch Tax and Customs Administration, ING, Michael Page, NS and Arriva offer workshops in which students learn skills they can put to good use on the job market.

With this programme, the university responds to national signals from the job market that the level of professional skills shown by graduates is often still lacking. The Future-proof Skills programme links up with the European Skills agenda the European Commission will present around 25 May.

AN IMPORTANT SUPPLEMENT

Of course, students already get ample opportunity to become familiar with the job market during their regular degree programmes. Internships, guest lectures, commissioned research and practical casuistry provide students with knowledge and skills that contribute to the end qualifications of the degree programmes. The Future-proof Skills are an important supplement to the existing preparations.

WORKSHOPS BY PROFESSIONALS

In workshops, given by professionals from both the public and private sectors, we specifically zoom in on professional skills such as negotiating, customer-orientation and stake-holder management, but also on skills that are more focused on one's personality, such as personal branding, self reflection and how to balance your private life and your work.

The workshops are primarily held 'at home', at the organizations that provide them. This immediately offers students the opportunity to get an impression of the atmospheres and cultures of the organizations in question and to network with people from those organizations. Students who participate in at least three workshops will receive certificates afterwards.

CUSTOMER ORIENTATION WITH THE DUTCH TAX AND CUSTOMS ADMINISTRATION

One of the offered workshops will be given by Director General Hans Leijtens of the Dutch Tax and Customs Administration. He will explain to the students how his traditional, large organization is becoming a customer-oriented organization in which citizens are the central point and the user experience functions optimally for people and corporations.

EUROPEAN SKILLS AGENDA

Around 25 May, the European Commission will launch the European Skills Agenda, which aims to improve the connection between education, the job market and society.

INITIATIVE

The programme Future-proof Skills is an initiative by Career Services of Utrecht ľ¹Ï¸£ÀûÓ°ÊÓ and is sponsored by: De Baak, ING, Arriva, Michael Page, Dutch Tax and Customs Administration, Shell
