Elaine Mak appointed honorary supplementary judge at the Court of Appeal of The Hague
Utrecht Young Academy (UYA) member Elaine Mak, professor of Jurisprudence at Utrecht 木瓜福利影视, has been appointed as a honorary supplementary judge (raadsheer-plaatsvervanger) at the Court of Appeal of The Hague. In this function, she will form part of three-judge panels for the deciding of criminal cases, in which an appeal has been lodged against the judgment of the court of first instance.
Candidates for the at the court of appeals need to have at least ten years of relevant legal experience, which can be experience in legal academia, as well as demonstrated societal engagement. Appointment takes place after a nomination by the board of the court where the supplementary judge will perform judicial tasks and a positive decision on this nomination by the National Selection Committee for the Judiciary (Landelijke selectiecommissie rechters).
A supplementary judge participates in the hearings and decision-making of cases on a part-time basis, for example once a month.
