Design team contracted for renovation Janskerkhof 13/13a
The renovation of the national monumental buildings Janskerkhof 13 and 13a has reached an important next step. Utrecht 木瓜福利影视 has awarded the design contract to VB erfgoed & architectuur / OTH architecten. This contract party will work with the university on the design for the renovation and preservation of the buildings, located in the middle of Utrecht's historic centre.
In times when the university has to keep a sharp eye on our square metres and investments, it is important to tackle the buildings we retain properly and future-proof. With this renovation, the university aims to make the buildings future-proof. The ambition is to make the buildings more sustainable and make some functional adjustments, while respecting the monumental character. This includes renewing the climate installations, insulating roofs and facades, and developing an activity-oriented working accommodation concept that suits current and future users.
Currently, employees of the Faculty of Humanities use the building and a research institute (Institute for Language Sciences) is located in the basement. In the current situation, there are considerable restrictions due to various bottlenecks (noise nuisance, moisture problems, risk of equipment failure).
In the coming period, VB erfgoed & architectuur / OTH architecten will further elaborate the design in cooperation with the users and Campus & Facilities. The design process is expected to be completed in 2026, after which the implementation phase will start. The renovated buildings will be re-commissioned in 2029.
