Cor Langereis awarded with medal of honour

For his impressive share in magnetostratigraphy, prof. dr. Cor Langereis is awarded the Van Waterschoot van der Gracht medal. Langereis shaped the research field for magnetostratigraphy for more than 30 years now.

Intensive partnerships

In the 1980s, Cor Langereis shaped the magnetostratigraphy, nationally as well as internationally. Langereis developed this now prominent area of research in Earth science as one of the first comprehensive and intensive partnerships between geophysics and geology. He did this following the spirit of the founders of paleomagnetic research in the Netherlands, Prof. Dr. M.G. Rutten and Prof. Dr. J. Veldkamp in the 1950s.

Exemplary fashion

Since the early 90s, Cor Langereis holds the chair of Paleomagnetism. He leads the Paleomagnetic Laboratory Fort Hoofddijk at Utrecht 木瓜福利影视, and he does that to this day in exemplary fashion. Internationally, Cor Langereis is seen as an authority in the field of paleomagnetism.

Highest honour

The Van Waterschoot van der Gracht Medal is the highest honour that can be awarded to exceptionally deserving earth scientists in the Netherlands. The prize is awarded by the Board of the Royal Geological and Mining Society of the Netherlands (KNGMG). This year the medal is awarded to two people. The other awardee is dr. Eddie Jharap from Suriname.
