Very involved, reliable and aiming to stimulate everyone's personal talents. A few catchwords that emphasize Professor van den Hout's strengths as a promoter, according to his PhD Candidates. A surprised Van den Hout says: "Although I don't get the impression that I do anything special compared to other professors, I'm very honoured to be nominated by my own PhD Candidates for this award. I find it to be very special to contribute to the formation of young talents as a promoter."

This award was initiated three years ago by the PNN to honour excellence in the supervision of PhD Candidates. PNN President and juror Rolf van Wegberg says: "Good supervision can make or break a PhD programme and is therefore not to be taken lightly. We often run down the supervision of PhD Candidates, but there sure are excellent supervisors who take their PhD Candidates to a higher level as well. Marcel van den Hout is one of those supervisors."

The presenting of this prestigious award is the traditional closing ceremony of National PhD Day. This year, three hundred PhD Candidates from a wide range of specialisations convened in Utrecht ľ¹Ï¸£ÀûÓ°ÊÓ Hall for inspiring lectures, workshops and a networking drink. All for the purpose of realizing the day's theme: Take charge of your career!
