Changing the guard | New Interim Managing Director Future Food Utrecht
My interest in food is broad: I love to eat it, I enjoy reading about it, I like to explore it and I am interested in food related initiatives.
Future Food Utrecht has appointed Simone Pekelsma as its new interim Managing Director.
Simone has an interdisciplinary background in humanities (European Studies and Turkish Studies), urban sociology and human geography. For the past 2+ years she has worked as a knowledge broker/business developer for the department of Human Geography & Spatial Planning (Geosciences) and the Transforming Cities Hub (Pathways to Sustainability). Her interest in food is broad: she loves to eat it (with a strong preference for French cheese, asparagus and ), she enjoys reading about it (she simply devoured ‘Fast Food Nation’, ‘Eating Animals’ and more recently ‘Sitopia’), she like to explore it (she recommends this platform:  – the global guide to local eats: a perfect guide for your next post-corona holiday…) and she is interested in food related initiatives – i.e. crowdbutching, craft beers and new concepts like ‘Vegetarische Slager’, ‘ElkeMelk’ and circular restaurants - , the dynamics of supermarkets and meal box delivery services, urban farming, food tourism and (changing) food cultures.
Simone will start her work from 1 September onwards. If you want to meet her for a brainstorm or a talk you can reach her via s.a.pekelsma@uu.nl.
