Caroline Slomp elected as Geochemistry Fellow 2020
A big congratulations to Professor of Marine Biogeochemistry Caroline Slomp, who has been granted the honorary title of . This title was awarded by the Geochemical Society (GS) and European Association of Geochemistry (EAG).
Contributions
The Geochemistry Fellow title is granted to outstanding scientists who have made a major contribution to the field of geochemistry. Caroline Slomp is (co-)author of over 130 publications, and has had fundamental and lasting contributions to the understanding of the marine biochemical phosphorus cycle in marine sediments. She has also been commended for her unusual number of big advances in marine biochemistry and her mentorship role in the geochemistry community.
Creating an environment essential for scientific progress
Usually scientist’s achievements are measured by the number of papers they published, the amount of funding they acquired, and major discoveries they have made. However, the GS and EAG also recognize that ‘scientific eminence, achievement and impact also includes contributions that create a dynamic environment essential for scientific progress’.
