On 30 November 2021, the first annual interdisciplinary UUCePP PhD Forum will be hosted by Utrecht 木瓜福利影视 Centre for Public Procurement (UUCePP). We hereby invite PhD candidates with a research focus on public procurement from different disciplines in academia to participate and submit their abstracts. After acceptance, participating PhDs will be able to present their work to their peers, receive individual expert feedback from two invited academic leaders in the field (one from your own discipline and one from another discipline), and gain opportunities to expand their network.

This year鈥檚 theme: Public Procurement for Societal Challenges

Societal challenges abound, yet comprehensive solutions remain absent. Climate change, security, migration, corruption, inequality, and many other challenges, are taking centre stage in the world. Increasingly, public procurement is seen as integral part of the posed solutions. This is not surprising given the potential of public procurement, which consist of approximately 14-19% of the EU GDP and can rise to as much as 70% in developing countries, as a means to influence society.

Importantly, academic research into public procurement covers many aspects to aid these solutions. Topics are, but not limited to, healthcare, defence, social conditions, corruption, efficient public spending, human rights, national security, crisis, digitalisation, innovation, sustainability and circular economy. Monodisciplinary and interdisciplinary research into these topics is vital for an efficient and effective functioning of public procurement in society.

In light of this theme, we welcome you to submit your abstract on topics within this theme, stemming from research in law, economics, business administration, public administration and/or purchasing sciences. You are welcome to submit monodisciplinary and interdisciplinary research abstracts and papers.

Relevant deadlines

The PhD forum will take place online on 30 November 2021. The following deadlines apply in order to secure participation:

  • Deadline for abstracts (max. 250 words, excluding title): 30 June 2021
  • Notification of abstract acceptance: 15 July 2021
  • Deadline for full papers (max. 5000 words): 1 October 2021

Submission of abstracts

Organisation

Given the expected COVID-19 restrictions, the forum will be organised online, unless the restrictions appear suitable for an offline conference (to be decided upon in June 2021 after the abstracts have been submitted). Either option will mean that ample opportunity will be provided to discuss and reflect on the presented papers.

Organising committee

The Public Procurement PhD Forum is organised under the auspices of UUCePP鈥檚 academic directors prof. Elisabetta Manunza and prof. Fredo Schotanus, and academic secretary dr. Willem Janssen. The organising committee consists of PhD candidates Bram Vroege LLM, David van Wijnen LLM, Ruben Nicolas MSc and Jakub Supera MSc. Should you have any questions, feel free to reach out to publicprocurementforum@uu.nl.
