Book Launch: New directions in ethnography and violence
On Thursday 8 April, from 15:30 – 17:00, two books from researchers connected to the research platform Contesting Governance will be launched online.

About the authors and discussants
Erella Grassiani is Assistant Professor of Cultural Anthropology at the ľ¹Ï¸£ÀûÓ°ÊÓ of Amsterdam. Her research interests include the military, violence, security issues, peace and conflict, Israel/Palestine. She is the editor-in-chief of the journal Conflict and Society.
Susanne Knittel is Assistant Professor of Comparative Literature at Utrecht ľ¹Ï¸£ÀûÓ°ÊÓ. In her research, she explores questions of memory, commemoration, cultural amnesia, the figure of the perpetrator and the politics of memory. She is the founder of The Perpetrator Studies Network.
Eva van Roekel is Assistant Professor at the Department of Social and Cultural Anthropology at VU Amsterdam. Her research interests include violence, morality, human rights and visual anthropology. Her current research focuses on the refugee crisis and natural resources in Venezuela.
Nikkie Wiegink is Assistant Professor at Utrecht ľ¹Ï¸£ÀûÓ°ÊÓ’s Cultural Anthropology Department. She has published on armed group dynamics, Disarmament, Demobilisation and Reintegration, and veteran politics. Her recent research focuses on the politics of resource extraction.
The launch is organized in collaboration with the departments Cultural Anthropology at Utrecht ľ¹Ï¸£ÀûÓ°ÊÓ (UU) and Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam (VU), and the Perpetrator Studies Network.
