All-gender toilets
A common question among students and staff who do not want to use separate male/female toilets is: where can I safely go to the toilet? This is because in the male/female toilets, a person's gender explicitly matters more than outside. As a result, there are individuals who find going to the toilet at Utrecht 木瓜福利影视 (UU) unpleasant or even avoid it altogether. Therefore, a number of things are being adjusted regarding the all-gender toilets, such as findability and signing.
Pilot all-gender toilets
UU believes it is important for everyone to be able to go to the toilet safely. This is why a of all-gender toilets was launched in three buildings in 2018. The evaluation of this pilot, conducted this year, showed that the presence of these toilets is a success, but that people often have difficulty finding the toilets and do not always feel safe in these toilets. The feeling of insecurity in the all-gender toilet occurs mainly in the toilets with a urinal. Of course, we take these signals seriously and will therefore make some adjustments to the existing all-gender toilets in the coming period.
Following the pilot with three all-gender toilets, all-gender toilets have now been realised in 13 buildings. Utrecht 木瓜福利影视 aims to realise at least one all-gender toilet in all buildings that meet the conditions. So in some situations, this may not be possible. This concerns very small buildings, for example. The assumption is that this can be implemented with minimal modifications. This also involves avoiding the removal of urinals, because that directly has a negative impact on the 'urination capacity' in a building. Only when there is no other option for achieving an all-gender toilet in one, urinals are separated.
To clarify that there is a urinal behind the door and thereby avoid annoying situations, an additional sticker indicating whether there is a urinal behind the door will be added next to the all-gender icon.

Currently, not every building has an all-gender toilet. But where can they be found? Since recently, you can find on the building pages on uu.nl and whether there is an all-gender toilet in the building. If not, the location of the nearest one is listed.
